he fully serviced holiday village of Village Cabo Girão is situated atop one of Europe’s highest sea-cliffs – some eight miles from the island’s capital Funchal – and enjoys panoramic views across the valley to the capital and out to sea.
In all, properties are available: Studio apartments, one-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom apartments, two-bedroom private villas, three-bedroom private villas (with a heated shared pool) and four-bedroom villas with private heated pools. The villas also share a private tennis court. All properties offer sea views. A free shuttle on-site courtesy bus service is available for people who have mobility difficulties around the site.

A pool bar (The Blue Marlin): All that swimming will work up your appetite! Luckily, The Blue Marlin, our pool bar, serves a selection of light snacks and drinks. Your holiday in the sun wouldn’t be complete without a barbecue, so one is hosted every Thursday at the bar. Happy hour runs from 5pm – 6pm every day (except Thursday), which is always handy to know!

A short tennis court: Our short court is ideal for smaller tennis players. Why not use it to teach your kids how to play? Full-size courts can be daunting in term of size and the net might be too high. Therefore, they’ll much prefer our short court. Who knows, it could spark the start of a life-long passion!

A bowling green: Not just for older holidaymakers! Bowls is a great sport for children and adults of all ages. When the sun is at its peak, you might not want to exhaust yourself by running around. Bowls is gentle and calming, but requires precision and concentration. We highly recommend getting the whole family involved for a friendly game one afternoon.

Crazy golf: While we don’t have room for a full-size course, you can practice your putting skills on our mini golf course. Face tricky obstacles and pesky slopes all while enjoying the sun and cool sea breeze. We guarantee the kids will love giving it a try too, as just like bowls, crazy golf is a laid-back and fun sport.

A children’s play area: Kids have a lot of energy to burn off and running around in our play area is bound to do the trick. Kitted out with a see-saw, swings, slides, play house and noughts and crosses game, your little ones with adore it. The floor in the play area is sandy, so they’ll be no sad faces should someone fall over!

A snooker room: If pool and bar billiards aren’t your thing, then you may prefer our dedicated snooker room. There’s plenty of space for spectators to sit and either cheer you on or heckle your shots, depending on whose side they’re on! It’s a great place to spend an evening or two.

Tables tennis, pool and bar billiards: You can enjoy all these games in our club room. Ideal for families or for couples who love some friendly competition to work up an appetite before dinner time!

An indoor children’s play area: Designed with young children in mind, this indoor play area is ideal for keeping the little ones happy in the evening or if it’s raining outside. There are easels for drawing on, a pram to play mummies and daddies with, a pretend kitchen and more.

A mini-market (Sterling accepted): From gifts, to breakfasts goods and medicines, you’ll find everything you need at our on-site store. Not everyone wants to eat out every day, especially if they are on a budget, so it will no doubt come in handy. Many of the comforts you enjoy at home are stocked here, so there’s no need to pack the tea bags.
On-site eateries
Village Cabo Girão boasts a fabulous on-site restaurant, the Atlântico, offering an exquisite à-lacarte menu at affordable prices, a welcoming atmosphere and spectacular views over the mighty Atlantic Ocean. The chefs, friendly staff, vibe and ‘that view’ all combine to create a wonderful place to eat.
If you’re just looking to grab a drink and a bite to eat, the on-site Marlin Pool Bar has it covered. Open daily for light snacks and drinks, the bar also operates a ‘happy hour’ from 4:30pm to 5:30pm every day except Thursdays, as this is when the weekly barbeque is hosted!
Self-catering supplies
There is a well-stocked mini-market on site, with everything you need in the way of food, drinks, toiletries and much more. You can save yourself some money by having breakfast at your villa and making the pack lunches for your kids to enjoy when you’re out and about. If the mini-market does not have what you are looking for, please ask the shop assistant and they will be happy to try and get it for you.
The restaurant, bar and mini-market accept euros and credit cards (with the exception of American Express and Diners Club).
Outside the resort
If you wish to eat outside the resort, there are plenty of amazing eateries in Madeira, from budgetconscious bars and cafes to fine-dining establishments. As you might expect, the majority are to be found in capital Funchal, with the distinguished Reid’s Palace Hotel coming highly recommend. The hotel’s Les Faunes restaurant is considered one of the best on the island, and late afternoon high tea is an institution.
A stone’s throw from Village Cabo Girão, the picturesque fishing village of Câmara de Lobos also boasts more than its fair share of atmospheric cafes, bars and restaurants, so don’t just stick to the capital!
There are so many great eateries nearby that it would be impossible to mention them all, but here are a few suggestions:
- The tiny Tokos Restaurant serves fantastic food at mid-range prices, and is renowned for the friendliness of its staff.
- The O Celeiro restaurant offers guests a typically Portuguese, but specifically Madeiran, dining experience at very reasonable prices.
- For a top fine-dining experience try Cris’s – it’s so popular that booking is essential!
- Vila do Peixe boasts amazing sea views and accompanied by the freshest seafood you’ve ever eaten plus traditional homemade desserts.
- Viola serves some of the best espetada in Madeira. The portions are huge, the service is friendly and the bill will probably be cheaper than you expected.
- If it’s cheap drinks you’re after you can’t beat Bar Number Two. It stocks a huge selection of drinks and has a very friendly atmosphere.
